I was expecting to drive the 3 litre S Tronic but it had gone somewhere! Anyway the sparkling grey (don't know which one of many) Q5 was pushed out of the showroom into the rain and I was driven around for 5 mins before I jumped into the drivers seat.
Firstly this car was pretty specced up - ?40,200 OTR price which included amongst other things 19 inch alloys, star silver sports seats (which looked fabulous btw), MMI sat Nav, Audi drive assist etc etc.
As a passenger the car was very comfortable to be in, plenty of room both in the front and in the back with the front seats quite far back and the boot was large. I agree with others, this is quite a big car, subjectively not that much smaller than the Q7 but didn't feel massive to be in if that makes sense.
So in I got to the drivers seat. Everything appeared to be in the right place, very comfortable driving position with the sports seats and a couple of buttons for the handbrake and the Audi hill assist. Since I part ex'd my car I have been driving my wife's manual Golf so quite used to the manual. As I drove off, the gearbox was fairly short throw and very nice to use, easy to change and the clutch wasn't too light which is good. The one thing that really stands out is the torque of the 2.0D engine, it was incredible and even in 5 and 6th when you put your foot down you got some power down pretty quickly - can't wait to drive the 2.0TFSI! I drove it for around 20 minutes and I absolutely loved it and am very pleased I have one on order. As has been said by Metin, the build quality is superb and it feels expensive.
One little gadget that I would recommend is the ?45 hill assist/start. This is just great, even in the manual as you come to a stop on an incline the brake will be automatically applied and you can take your foot off the brake. I tend to leave it in gear with my foot on the clutch when at lights so all you need to do is put you foot on the accelerator and lift the clutch and away you go as the brake is automatically taken off - genius! Only problem will be when you try and drive a car without it and roll back
Anyway, I will be returning to have a try in the 3.0D S Tronic but there is still no word of build dates for 2.0TFSI S-Line's which is slightly annoying. Any questions, fire away.......
