Well I finally got to go round a Q5.
First impressions....well bit dissapointed with the Audi stand and that killed it really.
Only 2 Q5's on display with one being inaccessible to the public and the other somewhere under a heaving mass of people
Not that I didn't expect crowds but come on...only 1 car to look round for such a major release ? With 4 million visitors expected, I expected more
Anyway it was an "Avus" model (top of the range designation here in France), 2.0ltr TDI in Ibis white with exterior S line kit.
What did I think, well, not much really. I didn't come away with that " I gotta order this tomorrow" feeling which surprised me. Having never owned an Audi I was just expecting more. Build quality yes is good but it just lacked something...which I can't describe....perhaps I was hoping for too much. The car on show had a OTR price of about ?58,000 which is just silly. Yes it had all the options but this car is never worth that.
As I am unable to really define anything I'm sure the reason I'm dissapointed is down to the fact that it was just a horrible venue to see the car. Once you are in the calm of a dealership and having a drive about I'm sure my enthousiasim will return. In terms of Audi I came away prefering to buy an A6 Avant or the new S4 Avant - same money.
The best things I saw though...Lotus Evora and the new Skoda Octavia estate. Skoda amazingly well built / practical / good interior layout / ...in fact I couldn't tell the difference in build quality between the Skoda and the Q5.
So I've hatched a plan - Skoda for the daily driver and the rest on a Lotus Evora for the weekend
My parents live near the Hethel factory in Norfolk so I can even pick it up
or
do I put it all into an S4 Avant ? I think I need confused.com
Anyway here are some pictures..sorry they are not great but it was BUSY
