Guys,

All the folks with a 2.0TDI (manual) I need you test something for me!

Over the last 8,000 miles I have noticed that when driving say 40/50mph in say 5th or 6th gear, if I lift off the throttle I get a low volume high pitch whine type noise in the cabin ~ the very second I reapply the pressure on the throttle pedal the noise goes away! I can actually modulate the noise with the throttle pedal.

I did initial suspect it was related to the turbo, but now I actually think it is related to the regenerative alternator, effectively kicking in when the foot is off the gas on a trailing throttle.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could listen out next time your in the car and either confirm we all have the same characteristics or I have a problem.

Cheers,

Lee.

Hi Lee
Mine is the S-Tronic and I have No noise like the one you describe, I can only think it's something to do with vacuum in the inlet manifold which increases when you lift your foot off the gas, maybe a small pipe loose on the manifold?

I would get it checked out at your dealers.

My A3 used to do that - sounded like a "very faint" Police siren.

It was just a noisy turbo and did it from 4k miles to 50k miles, without any issues?
