Hi everyone !

I'm starting to settle on getting a Q5 3.0 TDI, but have picked up that Audi has had problems with its diesel particulate filters in the past. My hope and expectation is that these problems have now been resolved, but would be really interested to hear about owners' experiences, both positive and negative. I'm a low mileage driver (sub 5000 miles) much of which is made up from short trips around town, and I don't want to be forced into making trips I wouldn't otherwise make just to clear a clogged DPF.

Any comments very gratefully reveived !

Q5's are possibly a bit too young to be experiencing issues yet. However for the sake of everyones health (especially our kids) if you are concerned about the DPF then please buy a petrol car rather than a diesel that doesn't have one.

Just a note: My 3.0TDI returned 6.6 lt/100km today on a short country run of about 110 km sitting on 110km/h (that's about 70 mph) for most of the way with some 100km/h running. That equates to about 42 mpg.

I've a 2,0 TDI and use it on a similar way
after 8.000km, I smelt for the first time a typical 'burnt" odor when I garaged the car
I immediately went out again for a little trip (35km) keeping the RPM above 3250
the dpf was 'cleaned" and no odor anymore
conclusion : when possible, do the same on a stroke highway, and your dpf will last for ever
