dirt is dirt - no amount of light will get through the lens unless it is clean.

 

Hi DriverJon I have the S-Line petrol with LED headlamps and there are no washers

 

No matter what is producing the light, the outer cover is going to get dirty and reduce the headlamps efficiency. I have not checked the options list so cannot comment if washers are an option

 

Time to get that car washed then ????

I can't see them on the options list. My A6 has LED headlights and headlight washers - they activate with every six or so uses of the windscreen washers and definitely improve headlight performance. The brochure and price list photos show headlight washer covers on the Q5 front bumper.

 

2018 TSI S Line, I have the headlight washer jet covers, not seen them working yet though.

Would there be covers and no washer jets......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

 

Looked inside the front bumper today (from inside engine bay, plenty of room) and although I can see the "washer jet" covers with hinge springs on the inside, I see no washer jets ready to protrude.

Tried washers over 30 times tonight, nothing comes out of covers.

 

I have submitted a question on this to Audi UK. Let's see what they come back with.

 

All weather headlights mean the units also double as front fog lights as there aren't any on the new Q5. There's a button on the headlight control unit by the rear fog button to switch this on.

Interesting. Some further googling confirms that washers are more or less mandatory for xenon headlights, but not for LEDs - could be associated with heat output and the propensity to “bake” muck on the lenses. Quite a lot of people questioning how effective washers are, regardless of bulb technology in use. I’ve perceived them to be helpful on my A6 (LEDs) when the road is particularly dirty/gritted and the vehicle in front is throwing up lots of muck.

I have looked through the brochure and can not confirm if the headlight washer system is available on the Audi Q5.

I would recommend that you contact your local Audi Centre as they deal with the sales process they have the latest information regarding the specification.

They will be able to view the Audi Q5 and will be happy to assist you with your enquiry.

You can find a list of all the Audi Centres in the UK at www.audi.co.uk; please ask to speak to the Sales Team who will be happy to help.

Why don't you do the following test?

Turn light switch manually to Low Beam Headlights and operate the window wiper lever arm (pull towards you).
You will see jet mist of water on windscreen and from from light area if your car has this function. This operation should only repeat after approx 5 repeats of operation.
In the mk1 version the cutouts confirmed that headlight washer system was standard. Base SE models did not have this function. Also note that this does not work with DRL's only switched on.

Got nephew outside to record it...basically the headlight washers pop out twice and wash headlights. Screenshot of washer jets doing there thing...

They defo work & boy are they messy and powerful

 

How are these activated? Is it with a simple pull of the screen wash dash stick

I remember when I was looking at my order and looking at the code behind Audi Configurator, it had headwasher lamps as an option that was not selected. Nemo you've done well. Just checking the German site for the Q5 configurator and headlight washers is a 265 EURO option. Whether Audi UK should be including this as standard on the UK version is very unlikely ( a bit of a joke as remember at the time it was a standard feature on the Q2 and Q3!)

 

Actually looking at this I think the UK cars should have this as standard. If you look on the Audi German site, the Q2 has headlight washers as a paid option. If you look at the Q2 on the UK site it is included without having to pay.

 

Tried my S-Line petrol last night and this morning. Must have activated my windscreen washers a dozen times with the headlights on. Nothing activated the headlight washers. The covers are in place on the bumper as seen in previous posts, but I guess they are not standard fitment in the UK and I cannot find any options for them in the UK configurator. Just means the wife will have to keep a damp sponge in the glovebox, ready to jump out every 50 miles and give them a wipe lol.

I've got serious doubts about the Mexican factory...put the clang to one side for the moment, but how can some cars have the headlight washers and some not? How can some get the illuminated cup holder lights and some not...I don't get it...

 

a lot of inconsistencies. A trivial point but 3 of the 4 Q5s I have driven have the airbag warning diagram on both sides of the passenger sun visor. One had nothing

I looked at a stock Q5 (New) and it had a reversing camera, but no washer jet to clean it when it gets dirty (all the time in the wet).

Also looked at 2 last weekend in the showrooms and they still do not have the washer jets in the rear handle.

I had the camera installed after purchase using genuine Audi parts by local installer and the Audi kit comes complete with washer jet system..

I've never known an Audi reversing camera come with a washer jet - would love to see pics of the aftermarket kit and where the rear jet goes if you're able to get a pic or two. Wonder if you can actually just retro the jet then?

 

Its not aftermarket kit, its genuine Audi, the jet is directly next to the camera lens.

A genuine Q5 reversing camera was ordered and it came with a washer jet, they had to also order the washer hose kit to go with it from Audi.

Looked at a new Q7 in the showroom and it had the washer jet with camera.

Must be the latest thing just come out.

 

I wonder if you could then just buy the washer?

 

This is the genuine Audi camera with minute washer jet, which is very effective on my Q5, cost £540 plus VAT fitted.

Now you know how to wash the rear camera, not just using rear wash wipe for window (which I normally never used).

 

I only did it by activating the rear window wash and wash wipe!

 

Yep thats what I meant.

As I never ever use the rear wash wipe on my cars I would never have known it existed and never used it, its only because I had it retrofitted that I knew the washer existed.

Now all members can find out they have it fitted, and use it.

Maybe start new thread to let everyone know how it works as I am sure most do not know they even have it (like yourself).
