2016 Q5 2.0Turbo
Where do I start with this oil guzzling POS!! It runs out, not low, but OUT of oil every 300 miles. Now the Audi dealership wants to charge $500 for an oil consumption test. This has been going on for approximately 6 months. We take it to the dealership, they add oil, and we’re back within 10 days. If the Audi dealership can’t tell there’s an issue without do their $500 test then there’s a bigger issue at hand. I can honestly say, do NOT buy an Audi Q5 between the years of 2012 through 2017!!

A bit draconian. There are many Q5's on the road that don't have this problem. Your Q5 is out of warranty so I would go to an indie and start from there.

The visits to the dealer should prove the issue and then they resolve it. Been like that for many years on the 2.0.TFSI. There's no point going to the dealers to measure consumption vs milage etc if they then don't action it.

Age itself isn't the issue. There is a problem with this period of 2.0T engines.

Excessive oil consumption is a well documented issue. Not all cars of the era he quoted are affected, hence Audi instruction to the dealer.

My point was: when buying a second hand car of any manufacture, there is always a risk. Buyer beware :(

Agreed. My current A4 has this engine (MY2010) but doesn't use a load of oil. Its odd.

It’s not draconian at all. I know several Q5 owners and every single one of the have the same issue. Are you aware of all the lawsuits? Even though the owners manual say the 2.0 Turbo will use approximately a quart every 1000 miles, these engines are using quite a bit more due to improper seals on the pistons. Even the Audi dealership is telling us this. We have an extended warranty that has paid out over 10K in trying to fix this POS. Don’t get me wrong, they are beautiful vehicles but when the engine is subpar, it’s not worth a dime.

Has this just started happening, or have you just purchased it?
Purchased it 1 year ago with less than 90k miles on it. It has been at the Audi dealership repair center more than we’ve driven it. Thank God we purchased an extended warranty. Over 10K paid out through extended warranty and still having the same issue. Next step is to replace the pistons but that hasn’t proven to be effective long term.

See my reply to your other post. Really excessive oil consumption cure is straightforward mechanically. It is a common problem on old British cars and easily cured. Modern cars can have a problem with the crankcase breather system which old cars don't have or suffer from. Worth checking.
