Hi,

The car has previously opened the trunk/boot fine and then closed it when i press the close button on the lid. However, it now opens the trunk/boot over half way and then will automatically close it.

It issue just started happening by itself. no issues with the locking, that is fine. I have tried holding the boot up and holding down the close button until the lights flash to reset but it doesn't make a difference and the same thing happens, it just wants to close itself.

Any help or advice would be appreciated???

Its a 2010, out of warrant i'm afraid. I'm getting the timing belt and water pump changed by a specialist on monday and have already mentioned the issue to him. I just wondered if anyone else had come across this.

Sorry, I can't think why I thought it was 2015?
Unless its a known problem, which judging by the lack of replies it isn't, I think your next step would be to connect the car up to some diagnostics.
That should pinpoint where the problem is.
It might be a software issue or possibly a limit switch playing up.
I'm sure your specialist will be able to identify the problem.

I had an issue on my 2010 version a month or two back when i noted I had a rattle from high up in the back of the car when going over some bumps. The tailgate then started playing up shortly afterwards sometimes raising about a foot before closing again. Turned out one of the two tailgate motors had come away from the roof mount (its just held in place by a single bolt!) and it had popped the gear out of its housing. Therefore not enough grunt to lift it on the remaining motor. I hit the plastic roof cover plate by the hinges and could hear the dull thud of something heavy! Perhaps this might be worth a check?

Thanks, my mechanic has had a look and said its the right hand side boot strut, its gone. it looked oily and when he removed it he was able to push it in and out with ease so reckons that the weight of the boot isn't being supported past a certain point so the hatch starts to droop and the the automatic closing feature kicks in to close and lock the boot. If worked on a couple of days and he asked if it was warm/hot on those days because the heat would have helped the gas expand to give the strut more holding power. Incidentally, it was on those days. he is putting a new strut in on saturday so will keep you posted.

just thought i would let you know that it was a worn boot strut on the right hand side. It wasn't strong enough to help hold the boot open and so kept closing.
All is fine and working as it should now.

I have recently started having problems with my 2010 electric trunk. When trying to open it with the fob or at the drivers door switch the trunk will unlock but will not raise. When you touch the trunk open button on the trunk it will then open. It started to do this a couple of weeks ago and then right before I took it in to the dealership for an already scheduled service it "fixed" itself. The dealer coulnd't find anything wrong with it of course. Now it is doing it again. A first world problem but still annoying. I will get the dealership to check the boot strut next service.

I also have had issues with the locking system - every winter the system stops working and the only way to unlock the doors is with the key fob. The only thing I can think of is something to do with grit and grime that gets on the car from the road. I live in Whistler and we get lots of snow and the roads are salted regularly. The dealership says there is nothing wrong and I am the only person who has ever had this problem. Anyone else have this problem?

Whistler, do you have or was the towbar ever fitted to your car? The only time my boot unlocks but doesn't rise is due to a safety feature when the towbar electrics are hooked up to avoid catching the lid on something. Overridden by pressing the button on the boot. I assume this is happening to you without being hooked up, I appreciate it's a long shot but check the electrics around this area?
