I have a 2.0TDI auto, on order and just recently a couple of people have suggested that it could be underpowered. I would be interested in the comments of those who have this vehicle. The alternative would have been the 3.0TDI, but it has also been suggested by others that the 2.0TDI is just fine and also, is a lot more economical.

Also, has anyone experienced snow in either vehicle? If so, what are your experiences like?

Hi Zed
I have the 2.00TDI S-Line S-Tronic and I don't find it underpowered, I have only covered 500 miles but it feel very responsive to me and the fuel consumption is in the high thirty's, No Snow in this part of Scotland yet to try it out.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for that. I am also in Scotland. Ballater to be precise. Makes me feel a little more confident in my choice. Looking forward to getting mine in January. Seems pretty good that you have only done 500miles and are getting high 30s.

Hi ZED,

Ive had my Q5 2.0 tdi stronic since Friday only done 400 miles... I dont find it underpowered either, You also have the option for sport mode or semi manual if you need that extra kick on the motorway...You wont be disappointed.. Im getting around 35 mpg with mixed dual carriageway + local driving, im sure it will improve..

Regards,

Mark

I took the 2.0 TDI with S-Tronic gearbox on an extended test drive and having been used to driving a 2.5 litre petrol engined 3 series coupe, I was surprised that I did not find it to be under-powered. The only slight issue was with the automatic gearbox changing up very quickly, which meant that 50mph the car would often go into 7th. However with the gearbox in sport mode this was eliminated. The 2.0TDI was fantastic on the motorway and had plenty of overtaking acceleration when needed. It was also blissfuly quiet at motorway speeds, in fact I was hard pushed to tell that it was a diesel I was driving, because it was so refined. For me it was this and the fuel economy, lower CO2 emissions and ?4000 less to pay that led me to order the 2.0TDI with the S-Tronic gearbox.

of course, with a difference of power > 45 BHP ...
if I compare my Q5 with my former A4 2,6 V6, the Q5 is evidently quicker, due to the more torque
but I have to switch to another way of driving (lower revs, shorter gear-changes)
not at all disappointing for my first diesel !

Remember there are 2 2.0 TDI models (143ps and 170ps)

The 170 is 2 seconds quicker to 60, 8 mph faster, yet only 1mpg less, 7 CO2 more on the emissions and strangely weighs 50Kg less
