Hello All!

Hope everyones good.

So I did it
Image
I took the plunge and wrapped my grille surrounds and fog light surrounds matte black! £50 for the job and I'm very happy, the car looks amazing. I love the chrome in the middle of the grille, so that stays, but now the rest is matte black which compliments nicely with my Lava Grey colour (pictures below).

apologies the car is absolutely filthy! The weather has been too temperate so i don't want to get it cleaned only for it to rain that afternoon.

So I hope you all like, I'm very happy with the new 'drug dealer' look

makes it look a little more aggressive IMO.

NOW THE PROBLEM.

Ever since I got it wrapped yesterday, my parking sensor has decided to stop working...When i put the car into reverse it has a loud beep and the 'parking sensor' button on the dash just flashes orange, any ideas why?

i'm praying it will stay away from having anything to do with the wrap, and will be easily fixable. My now I'm very worried as maybe when the guys wrapped the fog light surrounds they did something with the front sensors below, anyone know whats wrong?
I've snooped around and some have said system fault, which means that theoretically speaking it shouldn't have anything to do with the wrap itself, hoping Audi will let me keep it and not decide to strip it off if it needs fixing!

Thanks a lot,
Ray

Nope, sorry, (if you welcome opinions) I just don't 'get it'
As always, just purely personal opinion, but I can never understand why cover up the beautiful contrasting chrome for a matt black.
The main point for me thou, with the SQ5, is the wing mirrors, if this wrapping is going to be done, isn't it worth somehow concealing the silver on the mirrors too??
Doesn't it seem a pointless exercise if leaving them standard ?

As for the sensors, can't imagine why the wrap would affect them, but the timing is horribly suss,
I would think the wrapping people have disturbed something during the insulation, as opposed to the wrap itself creating the problem, which would be a better scenario for fixing the problem.

For the others no need to apologise, lol you're all entitled to your opinions; but I love it, the fat chrome outline is replaced and the chrome in the middle stays, for me it's a win win situation, especially for such a reasonable price.

Lol might not be so reasonable though if I need to get connector replaced! Thanks for getting back to me about it, I'm booked in with dealer next week for a check, it would be disappointing if it did have something to do with the wrap, mainly because I know the guys who wrapped it have done their fair share of Ferraris and Lambos etc. so I wouldn't expect them to damage this. The guy who wrapped the car himself has a Scuderia!

Will keep you guys updated.

Can't u pop back to them so they can have a look at the sensor 😄

I'm soon to carry out some painting and wrapping. I spoke to my dealers who are removing the parts for me to take away get them painted and wrapped, They said that if the parking sensors are unplugged or fiddled with they need to be flashed with a device which only they have otherwise they will not function. Hence the reason they are taking off and putting back the parts.

Hope this helps.

What u haveing painted 8 tec ?

Certainly wouldn't call your car dirty or filthy especially in comparison to mine. Good luck with the sensor fix.

Hi Ray
I kinda like it.

Love it! I ordered the black pack for my Lava Grey - but when they told me it would be delayed until at least April rather than getting it in a few weeks I decided against waiting.

Personally I'd just like to wrap the grill surround.... and also the window surrounds. I don't know the feasibility of doing the windows surrounds though?

Thanks Barbyboy! hope you're well!

Hectorshouse thanks again man.

8tec thanks mate that helps a lot, what you having done?

p3eps thanks dude! I recommend these guys at Siyara london, they were fast and reasonable. Doing the window surrounds they said is a little more difficult as its like a large strip so they have to take the whole thing out and wrap it then put it back in.

I'm booked in with Audi for next monday with a courtesy car, so will let you guys know the problem. I reckon they probably just didnt plug in the sensor fully, or it is an internal error but we will see.

I took some more photos yesterday with the DSLR, hope you guys like...BTW I Debadged the TDI too!

One of my favourite photos:

Looks good, then I am biased as I'm going for the 'black pack'.

Window surround is relatively easy to remove, I did break 2 clips when doing it but I ordered all clips needed for both window surrounds prior to doing it to be safe.

Ian... do you have the part number for those clips?
Would I be ok removing the surround and using the car without it for a day or 2 whilst I put the surrounds in to be vinyl wrapped somewhere? I assume they're only decorative?
