I'd be v grateful for any info/advice to solve a small problem/mystery about my new Q5:

The MMI controls have 8 "shortcut" buttons above the trackpad:

Posted Image,

The owner's manual says the buttons can be programed to store (more or less) anything, such as destinations, phone numbers, etc. I can easily store radio progs, but nothing else.

User forums in the USA report similar problems and say the shortcuts can only be used for radio progs in the USA.

I phoned Audi UK and asked. After consulting their Tech Dept, the response was that the shortcuts can indeed be programed for destinations, phone numbers, etc; not just radio progs. They implied mine had a fault and said I should take the car back to the dealer - at just 1 day old! I may be wrong, but given the USA experience, I have a feeling that the manual is over-promising and that the functionality of the shortcuts is very limited. I've spoken to my dealer and asked him to investigate, rather than me return the car so soon, but I would be grateful and interested to hear if others have any knowledge on the point.

I've just programmed destinations and phone numbers successfully.

So for example a destination.

I went to Nav, scrolled through to my last destinations entered on the main MMI, chose the one I wanted with the turn wheel then pressed and held a relevant number and it stored.

Likewise with numbers. Went to telephone scrolled to last numbers dialled, found the one I wanted and pressed and held a number.

Similar method but you need to go to each function separately

Success! Thank you.

I don't know why it didn't work, repeatedly, before.
