Permanently turn off Start / Stop?

Is there a way to permanently turn off Start / Stop? I'd like to have it automatically set to OFF when I start the car, and I can enable it by pressing the button if I want.
I find it really irritating as my journey to work is all start / stop, and the engine keeps cutting and restarting every 10 seconds whilst crawling in traffic! No matter how lightly I press the brake peddle, it still cuts out!

I have a VagCom - surely there must be a way to disable on startup?

I have not seen anything to turn this off in my searches.

I have HHA and find a light touch on the brake when slow moving only activates HHA and a continued heavy pressure activates start / stop.

I still activate the stop / start sometimes when not meaning to.

I cannot see what your problem is when there is a switch to disable it after you have started engine????

Found this that someone had posted for an A7, but not sure if it does work for a Q.

Module 10 park/Steer Assist, then adaptation, then Deactivate Start stop function and turn it to active

Just thought someone who knows VCDS better than I do might be able to work out if it is possible.

It's a pain in the a**e having to press the button every time I start the car. Recently drove a Alpha Romeo Gulietta as a hire car on hols. Once I'd switched off the stop start it stayed off permanently, with just the switch lit. Very handy.

I can confirm the below vag mode works on my Q5 :

- module 09-Cent. Elec.
- enter Security Code (shown up by default) (mine i 20113)
- Adaptation, Type Channel 34 and hit Read button, it should show the factory default number.
subtract 4 to the value --> Start&Stop always disabled
add 32 to the value --> remember last status
- test & save

In addition of these values, if you add 64 to the value, the Start & Stop button light will be reversed: off if Start & Stop is disabled, and on if Start & Stop is enabled.

My car original number is 28, and I changed it to 60. So if the last time, Start /Stop is disable (light is on), then when engine is switch on next time it is still disable (light is still on).

Or if you wanna get rid off that extra light on button, just put in your car number + 64 and save it.

Cannot happier.

So what your saying is start stop is always off till you press the button to enable it?

I just tried this and yes it works exactly as described and remembers the last state.

I changed the default value of 28 to 60 and left the led as is because I felt technically the switch is labelled as off meaning that when illuminated it is off, anyway that is my logic.

audiinut you sir are a legend and I am sure many others will thank you for this too!

My Q5 was built in April '15, and arrived just over a week ago, so it hasn't had any software updates. It's a Canadian "Progressiv" trim )mid-level) + Sports Package ("internal" MMI). It has a button on the center console for the start/stop override. When the light is off, Start/Stop works normally. When you press the button, a yellow light goes on to indicate Start/Stop has been disabled. It always remembers your last setting.

Is this a market-dependent thing?

Yes it is market dependent.

The current models in the UK do not remember the setting so at each engine start the system is automaticaly turned on.

The mod is (was) not very widely known but quite simple and a blessing if you do not like the system.

Of course you can just press the button each time you get in the car if you wish which is not much hassle but I have programmed my stop/start system exactly like yours SteveMak and it is no hassle at all now

You need a VAGCOM/VCDS lead and software to do this mod, well worth the outlay once you have used a few times!

Rather than turn off have you tried to change the HHA sensitivity to see if you prefer it?

Module 03>Adaptation>Ch 58 (0=Normal 1=Early 2=Late)

I totally agree with you but I think you may have misunderstood me...

I was refering to the Hill Hold sensitivity in your car rather than the Stop/Start and the code I posted has helped others fall in love with the system again.

I'm sure you are not alone and there will be someone who has either found the correct coding or found that it can't be done

Thanks, found an image of the VCDS, now where do I plug it into the car?
